Department of Mass Communication Signs MoU with OTF and Soorty Foundation

The students and faculty of Department of Mass Communication attended the RISE Scholarship Program at IBA – City Campus where a significant milestone was achieved with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Karachi's Department of Mass Communication and OTF/Soorty Foundation. The partnership offers scholarships worth 2.25 Million to deserving students, providing financial assistance to talented individuals and enabling them to pursue their academic goals without financial burdens.

The University of Karachi has partnered with the RISE Scholarships Program, to become an Exclusive Education Partner, organized by the Orange Tree Foundation (OTF) and Soorty Foundation. The program aims to promote education and provide opportunities for students to excel in their academic pursuits.

The Chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Prof. Asmat Ara, participated in a panel discussion alongside educational leaders from prominent institutions, including IBA, IVS, FAST, and NUST. The discussion highlighted the initiatives taken by OTF and Soorty Foundation to offer scholarships to deserving students, enabling them to pursue their studies without financial constraints.

One of the scholarship recipients, Mr. Waqar Hussain, a student from the Department of Mass Communication, shared his inspiring journey and expressed gratitude for the scholarship and how it has had a grave impact and been a helpful hand in his life.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Shehzad Roy, Founder and President of Zindagi Trust, outlined his future plans for education in Pakistan. He began by emphasizing the importance of education in shaping the future of Pakistan. He stressed that education is the key to unlocking the potential of young minds and creating a more informed, tolerant, and progressive society. However, he also highlighted the challenges facing Pakistan's education sector, including inadequate infrastructure, outdated curricula, and a shortage of qualified teachers.

Dr. Prof. Asmat Ara praised the efforts of OTF and Soorty Foundation, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in shaping the future of young minds and promoting social mobility. The RISE seminar provided a valuable platform for students, educators, and industry experts to discuss ways to promote education and provide opportunities for students to excel. The event was a resounding success, with participants applauding the organizers for their efforts in promoting education and social welfare.
