Karachi to Host the 10th Special Olympics Pakistan Unified Marathon

Karachi will once again host the 10th Special Olympics Pakistan Unified Marathon on January 26, bringing together over 800 participants from various walks of life. This landmark event, featuring several race categories, aims to promote inclusivity and solidarity with individuals with disabilities, reaffirming the unifying power of sports.

The Special Olympics Pakistan Unified Marathon will include a 21km half-marathon, 10km and 5km runs, and a 1km unified and wheelchair walk, ensuring opportunities for everyone to participate. Athletes, individuals with disabilities, students, men, women, children, artists, and sports personalities are expected to take part, making this a celebration of diversity and unity.

Registration for the marathon remains open until January 25, encouraging widespread participation in what has become a hallmark event on Karachi’s sporting calendar.

Renowned tennis star and President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, visited the Special Olympics Pakistan (SOP) camp office ahead of the marathon and praised the event’s message of inclusion.

“Sports unite hearts and are not solely about winning medals. Their true essence lies in highlighting the importance of special individuals in society and promoting unity,” Aisam said.

Aisam also commended the dedication of volunteers working at the marathon registration desk and congratulated SOP Chairperson Ronak Iqbal Lakhani and her team on organizing the event for a decade.

The marathon will serve as a platform to honor the achievements of special athletes who have brought pride to Pakistan through their remarkable performances on international stages.
